Dumb Mistakes to Avoid When Cleaning

Dumb Mistakes to Avoid When Cleaning

Mistakes Are Easy to Make

There are likely a number of dumb mistakes you're making when cleaning, but we can help.  Check out our simple list of things you're maybe doing that actually make your home dirtier.

Using the Same Rag or Sponge for Everything

There is a point at which your sponge or rag is no longer cleaning, it's transferring germs and muck from one place to another.  Even if you keep adding new cleaning solution, your rag is collecting the nasty stuff that is disappearing as you swipe.  Eventually, it's collected all it can and it's going to just be smearing it around.

The solution is to have several microfiber cloths handy when you begin cleaning.  Change rags regularly by just throwing them into the wash and grabbing a fresh one.

Dusting Over Wiping

There are definitely some high places where hitting it with a duster is necessary to knock that dust down, but in general dusting only does that: knock it down.  Dusters don't collect as much dust as they do send it flying into the air to get breathed in or land somewhere else later.

To avoid this, use microfiber cloths to wipe every surface you can safely reach.  For the surfaces you can't reach, hit them with a duster extension wand, let the dust settle, then proceed to wiping down your home.

Cleaning from the Ground Up

Gravity is real, despite a few ridiculous TikToks we all may have seen.  As such, dust and dirt that gets disturbed as you clean is going to fall to the ground.  Starting with your higher surfaces allows you to later collect any fallen dust or dirt when you finish with your floors.
