Low Pressure from Your Faucet?
Is Your Kitchen or Bathroom Faucet Running Slow?
There are several very common reasons why you may be experiencing this problem. While it can be frustrating and inconvenient and may require the skills of a professional plumber, a lot of times these issues aren't so complicated. In most cases low pressure from your faucet can actually be resolved easily yourself.
Check the Shutoff Valves
This is a simple one, but it may be the cause of the problem. Shutoff valves are usually directly under the fixture. Once located you will want to turn the valve counterclockwise as far as you can to make sure they are fully on.
Blockage in the Fixture
If you have checked the shutoff valves and they are fully open, the next most likely cause for low pressure from your faucet is going to be a clogged aerator cap. The aerator cap contains a small screen at the end of your faucet that mixes with air as the water flows out and can become clogged easily. Most aerator caps can be removed with simple hand tools. However, some brands require special wrenches that may be difficult to locate. Once you have removed the aerator you can soak it in vinegar for a few hours, then rinse and reattach.
Your Seals or Washers Could be Worn Out
Depending on the age of your fixture and how much usage your faucet receives, the seals could be worn or damaged. This can cause your fixture to run slowly or even possibly leak. If you think this is the problem, you could try changing the fixture yourself. If you're not confident in your ability to do this, our team can help.
Low Water Pressure
If you are experiencing low pressure from your faucet, the next question is whether that's the only place in your home experiencing this issue. If you have slow flow to all the fixtures in your home, this could be indicative of low water pressure from the street to your home. This could be caused by a problem with the water supply or a blockage in your main water line. This is not as easy to diagnose and may require the knowledge of a licensed plumber.
